What We Love About Pollenca

North East Mallorca

An historic jewel at the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, Pollença is a microcosm of cobbled streets, imposing 17th century buildings and lively restaurants, cafés and shops.

During the day walk up the famed Calvary steps and let your gaze wander across the tapestry of tiled roofs and green hills.

Stroll from boutique to boutique, marvelling at the selection of handmade crafts. For those who love to sit back and simply observe the happenings of everyday life we recommend pulling up a ringside chair on the square and watching the world go by.

Glancing back towards the Puig de Maria, which casts its eye over Pollença like a watchful guardian, you can glimpse the impressive 14th century monastery that sits atop it.

On a summer evening, when the stone façades glow in the fading light, cicadas strike up their tentative drone and the burble of chatter floats from the beautifully decorated terraces lining the Plaça Major,

Pollença is like the Mallorca you always hoped you would discover. The town’s postcard looks and vaguely bohemian air have drawn artists, writers and luminaries, from Winston Churchill to Agatha Christie.

Pollença’s magical draw has endured for centuries, and it is no surprise that generation after generation return here for their annual getaway.

Where grandparents once sat in the Plaça Major watching their children play, they now return with their grandkids, starting the cycle anew. Many of us at Morgan & Morgan have been visiting Pollença since we were very young, and are now thrilled to be living here with our own families.

As a result, we have a unique and abiding connection to the town that is unmatched and which enables us to provide our guests with the best Pollença experience.

FAQ’s about Pollença

Location

How far is Pollença from the beach?

Pollença Old town is located 7.5 km from the beaches at Puerto Pollença and less than 20 minutes to the white stretches of sand at Port d’Alcudia and Playa de Muro.

How far is Pollença from Palma?

Pollença is located in the North of the island just under 60km from Palma. The journey is motorway for most of the route, taking approx. 45 minutes and is often quicker than accessing some of the areas of the south of the islands via the equivalent of A or B roads and country lanes.

Is it safe for my teenagers to walk around?

Pollença is a real family town with life centred around the main square ‘Plaza Major’ and its surrounding streets. Not too big, it’s perfect for older children and young adults to explore. However, as always we would advise guests to exercise caution, no matter where they are.

What is rural?

Whilst a villa or finca down a country lane may feel rural, look a little deeper and you will find properties cleverly shielded from view giving you privacy yet still within close proximity of the town. Properties located in the La Font area have a more residential feel to them, marrying tranquil vibe with convenience.  Down the county lanes between Pollença and Alcudia you will find properties with larger outdoor areas, small farms and a more country feel. We also offer an array of townhouses where you can be right in the middle of the action.

Transportation

Can I get an Uber?

No, however taxis are readily available and can be pre-booked.

Can I walk or cycle into town?

Pollença is an area for those who love the outdoors. There are great cycle lanes around that connect Pollença to the port and as far as Alcudia Old Town.

Language

Can you get by on English in Pollença?

The local language in Mallorca is Mallorquin, a dialect of Catalan. Each of the Balearic islands has their own dialect. Spanish is also widely spoken. The traditional feel of the town means that whilst you may not hear English, most restaurants, cars, cafés, shops, taxi etc. do speak English
